Your CBC Premium subscription will automatically renew each month. Once you cancel, you can enjoy Premium access until the end of your current billing period. You can cancel your membership any time by visiting the Account section in the CBC Gem app or on the CBC Gem website
After your subscription has ended, your profile will still allow you access to our entire video on demand library with the exception that it will now be ad supported.
You will also have access to live television broadcast streams from 14 regions across Canada, however you will no longer have access to CBC News Network.

Cancelling via the Gem website
If you have set up your Premium subscription using a VISA or MasterCard you can simply cancel your subscription by visiting https://gem.cbc.ca/ and following the instructions below.
Step 1 - Head to the CBC Gem website and select the Sign In button on the top right corner of the screen. If you are already signed in, skip to step 3.
Step 2 - On the following screen sign into Gem using the email address associated with your Gem account, or select one of the three social sign-in options (Apple, Google, or Facebook)
Step 3 - Now that you are logged in, select My Gem from the top right corner of the screen and select Account
You will be taken to the Account screen.
From here, ensure that your Subscription Status is Premium - Monthly and your Payment Method is either VISA or MasterCard
Tip
Subscriptions originally created through the Gem app (Android or Apple) cannot be cancelled directly from the Gem website. These subscriptions are handled by Google and Apple.
You will be provided with a link to Google or Apple's subscription management systems in the Account section
Apple subscriptions will appear as: Premium - Monthly (App Store)
Google subscriptions will appear as: Premium - Monthly (Google Play Store)
Step 4 - Near the bottom of the page, a button that says Cancel my Subscription. Select this button and you will then be asked to confirm your cancellation.
Select Unsubscribe to confirm.
Step 5 - Once you have confirmed your cancellation, you will still have access to your premium features until the end of your current billing period.
Reactivate a cancelled subscription
If you have cancelled you subscription (payment via credit card only) and then change your mind, you can always reactivate your subscription.
From the Account section, a cancelled subscription will display a message informing you of when your Premium entitlement will end.
To reactivate your subscription select either the link or button labelled Reactivate my subscription
You will be taken through a short reactivation process where you can confirm or update the card used, or enter any promotional codes you may have.
Cancelling via the Gem app for iOS
If you have set up your Premium subscription through Apple, you can simply cancel your subscription from the CBC Gem app on iPhone or iPad.
Step 1 - While in the CBC Gem app, select My Gem on the bottom right corner of the home screen to access your account details.
If you are not yet logged in, sign in using your preferred method.
TIP: If you ever selected the Continue with Apple option to access Gem
Please be aware of the method you use to sign in with. If you have ever chosen to sign in using the Continue with Apple option and opted in to hiding your email address, a new CBC Gem account would have been created for you. This new account would not be linked to any existing accounts you might have. If you're having trouble accessing your Premium subscription please try signing in with your email address first, and then trying the Continue with Apple option.
Step 2 - Once you are signed in, make sure the Account tab is active.
From here, ensure that your Type of Subscription is: Premium - Monthly (App Store)
Step 3 - Locate and select the Manage my subscription button.
Step 4 - On the screen that appears, select Cancel Subscription
Step 5 - Lastly, you need to confirm your cancellation
Once you have confirmed cancellation, the monthly recurring subscription will be terminated.
You will still have access to the service until your subscription end date.
Cancelling via your iPhone or iPad without using the Gem app
If you no longer have the CBC Gem app installed on your device, or you're outside of Canada and you are unable to launch the app, you can cancel your subscription directly from your iPhone or iPad
If you are using iOS/iPadOS 13 or higher
1. Go to Settings (grey gear icon on your home screen), then tap on your name on the top of the screen.
2. You will then see the Subscriptions option near the top of the screen.
Select this to view your Active/Inactive subscriptions.
3. You should see the CBC Gem app here.
Are you seeing it under the Active section or under Expired?
4. If you are seeing Gem under the Expired section, you are no longer being charged for your premium subscription.
5. However, if you are seeing CBC Gem under Active, select the Gem icon to enter the details screen.
From here select Cancel Subscription to cancel your subscription.
Once you have done this, your subscription will end at the end of the current billing cycle, and will not automatically renew.

Cancelling via the Gem app for Apple TV
If you have set up your Premium subscription via iTunes using our iOS or tvOS apps. you can simply cancel your subscription from the Apple TV settings.
Step 1 - Select Settings from the menu.
Step 2 - In the Settings menu, select Users and Accounts and then Default Users [Your Name]
Step 3 - On the next screen select Subscriptions located near the bottom of the screen
This will take you to your Apple Subscriptions page.
Step 4 - From here, select the CBC Gem under the Active header.
Step 5 - Now select Cancel Subscription and confirm your action.
Once you cancel, your subscription will stop at the end of the current billing cycle and will not automatically renew.
Cancelling via the Gem app for Android
If you have set up your Premium subscription through Google, you can simply cancel your subscription from the CBC Gem app on your Android phone or tablet.
Step 1 - While in the CBC Gem app, select My Gem on the bottom right corner of the home screen to access your account details.
If you are not yet logged in, sign in using your preferred method.
Step 2 - Once you are signed in, make sure the Account tab is active.
From here, ensure that your Subscription Status is: Premium - Monthly (Google Play Store)
Step 3 - Locate and select the Manage my subscription button.
Step 4 - You will be taken to the Google Subscriptions management section on your device.
From here, locate the Gem app.
Step 5 - If you see a Cancelled tag, you are no longer being charged for your premium subscription.
However, if you are seeing your CBC Gem subscription as Active, select the Gem icon to enter the details screen.
Step 6 - Locate, and select Cancel Subscription from the bottom of the screen.
Step 7 - You will be asked to confirm your cancellation.
Once you have confirmed cancellation, your subscription will stop at the end of the current billing cycle and will not automatically renew.
Step 8 - Once your subscription has successfully been cancelled, you will see a Cancelled status back on the Gem details screen.
You will still have access to the service until your subscription end date.

Difficulties cancelling your subscription from out outside Canada
You will not be able to access the CBC Gem website or Gem app from outside of Canada.
