CBC's primary role is as a broadcaster. While technology now exists that allows us to offer secondary, non-mandated services such as on-demand audio and video streaming, we simply cannot upload all archival content to our site. The costs associated with researching, clearing rights, copying and shipping archived content add up!
Fees for images and audio or video footage can vary considerably. A baseline rate to purchase material for personal use is approximately $125 for a radio item and $175 for an item that aired on television. For personal use, we can only license material that you or a family member appeared in. There are separate rates for commercial, non-profit, educational and institutional use; the minimum rate for these groups is $250/item for radio or television.
But note that, based on the intended use, length of item and needed copyright clearances, the final tally can be much higher. The base rates indicated above act as a guideline only.
