Acquiring and using CBC content depends on the type of material and the intended use. Please review this short article in full to help you find what you are looking for.
If you simply want to listen to or watch again something that recently aired, review CBC.ca first. Much of CBC's recently broadcast items can be streamed on-demand. As there is no set date when material becomes archived, we strongly recommend that you start with our site before submitting a request to the archives team.
For CBC Radio content
The CBC Listen site is the place to start, especially for local programs that air on CBC Radio One. Click on the On Demand link to search for a show and review the audio available for streaming. You can also find playlogs for CBC Music programs via the Listen site. Please note that most CBC Music programs are not available for on-demand streaming after their initial broadcast.
Some national Radio One pages have audio from past episodes on their show sites. To get to a national program's webpage, type cbc.ca/radio/SHOWNAME in your address bar. Here's an example cbc.ca/radio/asithappens
For CBC TV content
Start with CBC Gem to stream on-demand comedies, dramas and documentaries (in Canada only).
For local and national tv newscasts that aired in the past week, sports clips, life, and arts and entertainment stories, review the content on the CBC Player.
Visit CBC Sports for on-demand streaming of game highlights and full event coverage.
** A Special Note for Teachers **
If you find that content you have used in the past is no longer available for streaming online, it's most likely that CBC.ca no longer has rights for on-demand streaming. Teachers should review our educational site Curio.ca first for materials that may have previously been accessible on CBC.ca, including older documentaries.
Those schools with a Curio subscription can also request that select content be added to the site. If Curio is unable to host the content or if you are an educator or school that wishes to purchase other materials for classroom use, etc. submit a request through the Archive Sales form for Educational Use.
