What is live streaming?
Live streaming is a simulcast feed of CBC’s broadcast TV channel.
What are live events?
You can stream live events that are not broadcast on TV. Live events may include news, sports and special events.
Are closed captions available on live streamed shows?
Yes, closed captions are available on all CBC TV live streamed channels. When streaming a channel, select the Closed Captions icon (CC) in the lower-right corner of the screen to enable/disable.
Why doesn't the live stream match what's on my live TV broadcast?
Certain programs we only have the rights to broadcast on television. We may need to replace some programming or advertising due to licensing rights. CBC may not have the rights to stream certain sports programming or select episodes of older shows.
Can I rewind a live stream?
No, you cannot rewind a live stream. If you pause a live stream and then play you will be taken to the live point within the broadcast. You may also experience a short buffering period.
Why am I seeing the “this content is not available for streaming”?
We only have the rights to broadcast this content on television.
Why is there a delay between the TV broadcast and the live stream?
Streaming video over the internet may add a small delay.
Where can I watch The National or my local news live?
You can watch The National and your local news live on your favourite device by streaming your local CBC TV channel live.
Where can I watch CBC News Network live?
You can live stream CBC News Network on the CBC Gem app or on cbc.ca/gem. This content is only available to CBC Premium Members.
Will sporting events be live streamed?
Many sporting events are available for live stream. You can stream sports on any of CBC’s 14 regional channels or stream separate live events offered for sporting events not broadcast. We may not have streaming rights for all sporting events available on broadcast. As CBC's rights are for Canada only, this service, like all programming accessed through the CBC Gem app and cbc.ca/gem, is only available to individuals in Canada using Canadian IP connections.
