Over-The-Air Radio
Radio reception can vary widely and depends on signal strength and the type of radio receiver and antenna used by the listener. Radios can range from small portable units to high end component tuner/amplifier and speaker systems with sensitive antenna equipment.
AM signals will cover a large area but are heavily susceptible to noise and interference from numerous electrical sources. FM signals require a direct line of sight from your location to the radio transmitter. Place a radio away from computers, televisions and household appliances and near a window if possible. Physical environment is an important factor in reception quality: built up urban areas, or terrain that could be wooded, marked with deep valleys, hilly or flat may affect reception. Your signal will be weaker if blocked by obstacles or at points farther away from the transmitter. Weak signals are more likely to be degraded by interference. In some areas an external mounted antenna may be required for good radio reception.

Please consider the following before contacting us:
- Confirm whether it's only your radio that is affected. You may want to check with neighbours or another radio connection in your house to see if the problem is widespread.
- If it's only your radio that is affected, the problem may lie with your technology/devices and you may wish to refer to your device user manual(s) before calling in.
- If you live some way from your closest CBC Radio tower, you may have difficulty receiving a clear signal with some radios or in some parts of your residence. Try moving your radio to a different location to see if the signal is stronger/clearer.
- Inclement weather may also cause problems in certain circumstances.
