Due to rights issues and licensing agreements, certain sections of the the CBC Listen app (music playlists and select content) are only available to those within Canada.
The Listen app determines your location through settings on your device.
When you first launch the app after installation, you are asked to grant it permission to verify your location during use.
If did not grant the app permission, you will encounter an error message when trying to access Music Playlists, and other select content.
If you are within Canada and are encountering this message, please check the location settings on your device by following the instructions below.

You can check your device's location directly from the error message you encountered by selecting the 'Open Settings' button, or by following the simple instructions below.
On your device...
- Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services.
- Make sure that Location Services is ON.
- Scroll down and locate the Listen app
- Tap the app and select the option "While using the App"
In some cases, after you update your location settings you may need to launch the Maps app on your device to ensure your location is set accurately.
Android phones and tablets
You can check your device's location by following the simple instructions below.
On your device...
- Go to Settings > Privacy > Permissions Manager > Location
- Scroll down and locate the Listen app
- Tap the app and make sure the location access for the app is set to "Allow only while using the app"
Alternately, on your device...
- Go to Settings > Apps
- Scroll down and locate the Listen app
- Tap the app and then select Permissions and then Location
- From here make sure the location access for the app is set to "Allow only while using the app"
Please note that on older versions of the Android operating system the instructions on how to get to the Location screen might be slightly different.
In some cases, after you update your location settings you may need to launch the Maps app on your device to ensure your location is set accurately.
