For this year's Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, CBC Gem has created a dedicated Olympics section on our apps and website.
You will be able to stream events live as they happen or catch up on any missed events by accessing on demand 'Replay' streams.
And to help you find exactly what you're looking for we have added an in-depth event guide which allows you to filter events by day and discipline.
Please note: All times will be displayed in Local time (the time where you are currently located).
How to access the Olympics section
You will be able to access the new Olympics section by selecting the Tokyo 2020 banner on the Featured (Home) page of the CBC Gem app or website.
If you don't immediately see the banner wait a few seconds for it to scroll into position.
A list of all currently streaming events will be displayed just below the Tokyo 2020 image.
Just below the Happening Now section is our Event Guide.
From here, you can easily locate any discipline included in these games, and view their scheduled event dates and times.
1️⃣ From the Event selector, choose your desired discipline.
On our website, all disciplines will automatically be displayed.
On our Gem apps, you can reveal all disciplines by selecting the All Events button.
2️⃣ Using the Date selector you can browse dates to view event live stream start times.
3️⃣ As well as upcoming event start times, we will also provide you search results for events currently streaming live, and video on demand replays of past events.
The image below is from the CBC Gem website
Aside from some minor design differences, the schedule functions in the same manner on the CBC Gem apps for Android, Android TV, Fire TV, Apple TV, iPhone, and iPad.
All upcoming events will display an icon of a clock and the time the event begins.
All times will be displayed in Local time (the time where you are currently located).
Selecting an upcoming event will take you to the video player.
Here you will see a countdown timer in the centre of the player window.
This counter will display the time remaining until the start of the event live stream.
Once the counter reaches zero, your stream will begin.
All currently streaming live events will display a red LIVE badge.
A new feature to Gem (and exclusive to Tokyo 2020 content), is the ability to rewind all Olympic Games live streams.
If you're late starting an event stream, you can rewind as much as 30 minutes to catch up on what you missed.
On the Gem website, once you rewind live content you'll see a NOT LIVE badge in the video player controls indicating you are no longer streaming live.
To return to the live stream simply click on the NOT LIVE badge.
Once you're streaming live again the video player will display a LIVE badge
Rewinding Live content on our apps works in the same manner. Just scroll the video position indicator to the left to rewind up to 30 minutes in the past.
However, you will not see a NOT LIVE badge indicating you are no longer watching the event live.
To return to the live stream, simply slide the video position indicator all the way back to the right toward the yellow LIVE badge.
Once a live event has ended, it will be available for replay on Gem within a few minutes.
As mentioned above, you can use the date selector in the event guide to browse past events.
All repayable past events display a Replay badge.
These past events are available to everyone, whether you’re logged into Gem or not.
All replay events will be available for viewing until August 8th, 2021.
