Our archival preservation project will ensure over 80 years of Canadian history is preserved digitally by 2022.
Our archives are not being destroyed, but undergoing a transformation to ensure that they remain available to our production teams and our audiences.
Once the newly created digital files have been quality controlled and the data securely stored, the old physical media assets cease to serve a useful purpose. Once the content is preserved, there is absolutely no rationale to retain the carriers.
CBC/Radio-Canada is recognized as an industry leader in archival preservation and we are proceeding with the utmost care and expertise so we can continue to showcase this treasure trove of content. Not only will the archives be protected, but they will become much easier for our production teams to access and for Canadians to rediscover.
