In conventional broadcasting, program content, ads and promos are all packaged together into a unit, which allows us greater control over the loudness of the whole broadcast.
On-demand, streamed content on CBC.ca is not packaged in the same way. In streaming, the program content is stored and played separately from the ads. When there is a break in the streaming content, the system pulls an ad from a pool of potential commercials. Unfortunately, this means that the loudness of the ad may differ more noticeably from the loudness of the streamed content.
If you have heard an ad that you believe is too loud, please submit a request for it to be looked into. We will need to know:
- What video you were playing
- What time you were watching it, and
- A description of the ad (including the product/service)
